I've always enjoyed documenting my travels and sharing my experiences at local spots in cities like NYC, LA, and San Antonio. This started as a way to help out local businesses and other travelers, but it also became a great way to see which types of images actually resonate with people in a crowded digital space.

The Creative Brief:

  • Goal: Contribute high-quality, helpful visual content to local discovery platforms.

  • Requirements: Capture clear, helpful images that show what a location actually looks like for future visitors.

  • Target: Fellow travelers and locals looking for authentic glimpses of venues and landmarks.

The Execution:

When visiting different locations, I focused on taking photos that captured the actual atmosphere and details I would want to see as a visitor. I shared these alongside my personal recommendations, treating it as an informal study in what makes an image "useful" enough for the Google discovery algorithm to prioritize it.

The Impact:

The response to these photos has been a great lesson in the scale of organic reach. My contributions have collectively earned millions of views on Google Maps, with one individual photo surpassing 900K views! While these weren't professional assignments, seeing that level of engagement has been a valuable way to stay connected to how everyday users interact with visual content.
